Fr Anthony Denton was ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Melbourne on the Feast of St Joseph in 2002, following study at Corpus Christi College Seminary and the Pontifical Urban College in Rome.
He was initially appointed as Assistant Priest of Sacred Heart Parish, Croydon, and then to St Theresa’s Parish in Essendon. Fr Denton was appointed Director of Catholic Vocations by Archbishop Denis Hart in 2005.
The second eldest of nine children, he grew up in the Victorian regional city of Ballarat where he was educated at St Patrick’s College, before moving to Melbourne to do a Bachelor of Arts at Latrobe University, followed by a Diploma of Education (secondary) at Australian Catholic University and a Bachelor of Theology from the Melbourne College of Divinity.
An avid reader, he enjoys historical novels, political intrigue and art. These interests have led him to travel widely through Europe, the Middle East and America. He enjoys playing tennis, running and keeping fit; and has an eclectic taste in music, from Thomas Tallis to U2 and Midnight Oil to Pucini! He loves cricket and all things Italian (especially the food). He is a keen supporter of the Collingwood Football Club and tries to get to games whenever pastoral duties permit. Go Pies!
