by Fr Anthony Denton, Director of Vocations Fr Denton speaks with students from another Primary School On Thursday 22 February I went to the senior campus of St. Fidelis' School, Moreland. I spoke to all the grades five and six classes and found them to be very responsive. I showed them the new Vocations film, "Fishers of Men" and this elicited a healthy serve of questions about the nature of the priesthood as well as about the function of a priest.
Many of the children wanted to know about the story of my own vocation. Of particular interest was the question posed in several classes, "Did you want to be a priest when you were a child?" In fact I don't remember specifically desiring to be a priest, but I was certainly aware of the priesthood and knew many priests who were always welcome in my home when I was growing up. Likewise many religious sisters were friends of my parents and would visit us regularly. I believe that this positive experience and these personal relationships helped to sow the seeds of a vocation that would begin to sprout later when watered by other good priests whom I met while at university.
I was impressed by the friendliness of the school and the positive reception I received from the children and staff. |
